Reports say that Walker-uz-Zaman’s father-in-law, General Mustafizur Rahman, had served as the Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh Army from 1997 to 2000. Family relations between Mustafizur Rahman and Sheikh Hasina are said to be very good. Waqar-uz-Zaman joined the army in the year 1985. He was commissioned into the Corps of Infantry on 20 December 1985.
